Join the Fashion Revolution (The Lokal way) - LOKAL FOLK

We love kidswear.

The colours, the creativity, the way it's a part of childhood — messy, playful, and full of imagination and a side of chaos.

But like a lot of parents, we started asking a bigger question…

Why does something that's a daily essential being used every single day get so little thought around how it’s made — and how long it actually lasts?

Because the reality is:  the fashion industry is incredible at making things look good…
but not always great at thinking about the long-term impact.

That’s where movements like Fashion Revolution come in.

What is Fashion Revolution Week?

Fashion Revolution Week is a global movement encouraging people to ask better questions about the clothes they buy.

It began after the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013 — when over 1,100 garment workers lost their lives due to unsafe working conditions.

Since then, it’s grown into a worldwide call for transparency, fairness, and accountability in the fashion industry.

At its core, it’s about one simple but powerful question:

“Who made my clothes?”

The Problem with Kidswear (That No One Talks About)

Kids grow fast.
They play hard.
They get messy.

We all know this.

But what that’s created is a cycle of overconsumption
buying more, washing more, throwing away more.

Clothes that are only worn a handful of times before they’re:

  • stained
  • outgrown
  • or simply forgotten

And most of it ends up in landfill.

Not because parents don’t care —
but because the system hasn’t been designed to work differently.

A Smarter Way Forward (Why We Created Lokal Folk)

We didn’t want to create more kidswear.

We wanted to create better kidswear.

Pieces that last longer.
Pieces that get worn more.
Pieces that actually work with the reality of a childhood.

That’s why every Lokal Folk piece is fully reversible.

Because stains happen.
Because kids are kids.

And instead of that being the end of an outfit…
it can be flipped, worn and loved all over again.

Two wearable sides.
More outfit combinations.
More life out of every piece.

It’s not about perfection.
It’s about making small, smarter choices that reduce waste over time.

What “Better” Looks Like for Us

We’re not a massive fashion label.

We’re a small family brand, both Australians who packed up our life on the Sunshine Coast and moved with our two little ones to Bali to build our brand from the ground up ethically and on our terms.

We work closely with a small team of skilled artisans —
people we know by name, whose families we know, whose working conditions we see firsthand.

We’re not designing from afar.

We’re here —
visiting regularly, refining samples, choosing fabrics, and making sure every piece meets the standard we’d want for our own kids.

By being on the ground, we’re also reducing the need for constant back-and-forth production and transport during development —
keeping things more considered, more intentional.

And we choose premium 100% cotton fabrics not just for comfort —
but because quality means longevity.

And longevity is one of the most underrated ways to reduce impact.

Why This Matters

Fashion Revolution Week isn’t about being perfect.

It’s about being aware.

We question:

  • the food we feed our kids
  • the products we bring into our homes
  • the lifestyle choices we make

But clothing?

We use it every single day — and rarely stop to ask where it came from, who made it, or how long it’s designed to last.

And that’s starting to change.

The Question We Should All Be Asking

So this month (and beyond), we encourage you to ask:

Who made my clothes?
How long will this last?
Do I actually need more — or do I need better?

Because small shifts in how we buy…
can create a big shift in the kind of industry we support.

When is Fashion Revolution week?

April 22nd to April 28th, 2026

Our Part in the Movement

At Lokal Folk, we know we’re just one small part of something much bigger.

But if we can help parents:

  • buy less
  • wear more
  • and get more life out of every piece

Then that’s a step in the right direction.

And we’re proud to be part of that.
